Drivers faced a double whammy on the M62 today - Monday.

A broken-down van caused tailbacks stretching many miles in the Huddersfield area and within hours of that being cleared a car ended up on its roof after a crash creating further delays.

A loose wheel caused havoc in the first incident around 9am.

The wheel rolled off the van and left the vehicle stranded in the middle lane of the M62 eastbound between Junction 26 (Chain Bar) and Junction 27 (Gildersome), blocking two lanes.

Tailbacks quickly built up all the way back to junction 23 at Outlane.

Then, just after 1pm two cars were involved in a smash when three of the four eastbound lanes closed following an accident.

The crash between J28 A650 (Tingley) and J29 M1 (Lofthouse) caused long tailbacks for drivers heading east.

A woman driver in the upturned car managed to scramble clear unhurt. No-one else was injured and a lorry driver is thought to have parked his lorry on the carriageway in front of the car to protect it from being hit by other vehicles.
