A woman driver from Holmfirth remains in hospital over a week after she was seriously injured in a horror crash on the M62.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the collision which happened when a Vauxhall car was driven out of Hartshead Services and travelled the wrong way eastbound on the westbound stretch before it struck a number of vehicles.

One of them was an Audi driven by a 40-year-old woman from Holmfirth who was trapped in her vehicle after it was badly damaged by the impact.

Officers investigating the crash say the woman is recovering but remains in hospital. The driver is yet to be interviewed.

He was injured but is now out of hospital.

The westbound section of the motorway was closed shortly after the crash which happened last Tuesday between junctions 25 and 26, with the slip road from the M606 onto that motorway also closed.

An investigation will now be carried out and anyone who witnessed the collision should contact police on 101.
