POLICE are hunting an armed robber who struck in Brighouse.

The masked man escaped with about £1,000 from the Bradford and Bingley in Commercial Street after threatening staff.

Detectives believe he was armed with a machete when he struck on Tuesday morning.

The man had a hat pulled down over his face.

Det Insp Ashley Hewitt, of West Yorkshire Police, said: “The suspect has gone into the bank brandishing a large knife, described as machete style, and threatened the cashier while demanding money to be put into a carrier bag.

“The woman was not injured but very shaken up.

“It is thought this man fled on foot but we don’t know whether he got into a car parked elsewhere in the town.”

The suspect was white, aged in his late 20s or early 30s, 5ft 10in, skinny build and of scruffy appearance. He spoke with a Scottish accent.

He was wearing a blue hat, a blue jacket and blue trousers.
