A man has been banned from the Kingsgate Shopping Centre after stealing from one of its shops.

Kirklees magistrates issued Anthony Heath with the six month exclusion order after hearing how he stole perfume from TK Maxx.

The Huddersfield court heard that the incident happened on June 3.

Heath, of Lidget Street in Lindley, was stopped by staff outside the store and the £19.99 bottle of DKNY perfume was recovered.

The 44-year-old tested positive for having cocaine in his system following his arrest.

Heath told police that he didn’t have any money and was going without meals.

Aftaab Hussain, mitigating, said:“A few days prior to this incident his wallet was stolen with a significant amount of money in it.

“He had no option but to commit this offence - he had no food.”

The court heard that Heath suffered from several health problems, including brittle bones and arthritis.

As well as banning him from the shopping centre, magistrates told Heath that he must complete a community order with 10 days of activities.

He also has to pay £150 court charge and £60 victim surcharge,
