MAGISTRATES took part in a training day about youth courts.

Around 35 magistrates attended the event organised by Kirklees Youth Offending Team in partnership with the Kirklees Magistrates Courts.

The event at Dewsbury Magistrates Court featured workshops dealing with issues including custody, anti-social behaviour and supervising young offenders in the community.

The JPs also heard from Graham Robb, interim chairman of the Youth Justice Board for England and Wales, who talked about the future of the Youth Justice Board under the newly- established Ministry of Justice.

The Youth Offending Team supervises all young people aged under 18 who are sentenced by the courts.

The Youth Justice Board oversees the performance of the Youth Offending Teams and partly funds their work.
