A ROAD taking traffic to Huddersfield's ring road is to be shut during bridge repairs.

Work is due to start on July 12 on strengthening Besancon bridge, which takes Fitzwilliam Street over the ring road.

The Castlegate Loop will be closed during the work.

A Kirklees Council spokeswoman said: "Drivers will be diverted to a suitable alternative route."

Work also begins on the same day to strengthen a bridge taking Lindley Moor Road over Halifax Road at Ainley Top, at the back of the Cedar Court Hotel.

There will be road lane restrictions, as well as a limited number of overnight closures of the westbound slip road from the M62 at Junction 24.

It is estimated that both schemes will take 13 weeks, at a total cost of £550,000.
