MOTORISTS are being warned to steer clear of a busy Brighouse road until next April.

Major repairs along a stretch of Elland Road below Brookfoot Hill begin on Monday November 3.

Severe traffic disruption is expected and travellers are being urged to find alternative routes.

The works - on a half-mile stretch - include highway drainage as well as resurfacing of pavements and the road itself. Walling is also being rebuilt.

The lower section of Brookfoot Lane will be included in the scheme.

A huge resurfacing project high on Brookfoot Lane was completed earlier this year. Those repairs saw an entire section of steep hillside removed and caused months of disruption to commuters and residents living in Southowram.

A spokesman for Calderdale Council said: "The Council apologises for the inconvenience this will inevitably cause.

"The works are, however, very important and have been delayed for quite some time due to other works in the vicinity.

"The road structure is in need of maintenance and once completed, drivers should find their journey through the Brookfoot area is greatly improved."
