A HUDDERSFIELD majorettes group is celebrating a series of successes at a major competition.

The Silver Stars Majorettes won several prizes at the Universal Championships in Bridlington.

Teams and individuals competed at different difficulty levels, known as divisions.

The Silver Stars, based at the Manor House club in Crosland Moor, fielded several teams in division two.

They won the Senior Open Section of the Year category and came third in the Senior Open class and the Junior Open category.

Individuals from the Silver Stars won the Senior Leader and Senior Mascot prizes in division two.

The group's leader, Pat Shepherd, said the success rounded off what had been a great year for the Silver Stars.

One of the highlights was receiving money from the Examiner Community Chest giveaway to buy some new uniforms.

Mrs Shepherd said: "They all did really well and worked hard.

"They deserved to win in the championships. I'm really pleased for them.

"We had a really good year, thanks to the children, trainers and parents.

"We would also like to say a big thank you to the Examiner Community Chest."

The group is currently looking for new recruits.

It takes members from all over Huddersfield and there are three age groups.

Each group trains separately once a week at the Manor House.

Currently, members are aged between two and 24.
