Mamas & Papas has announced it is recalling some of its car seats amid safety concerns.

Following a number of safety checks the retailer, which is based in Huddersfield has found that 'in the event of an accident the car seat shell may crack' and not give full protection to a child.

The seats affected are Mamas & Papas Nembus, Mamas & Papas Aureus, Mamas & Papas Group 123, Mamas & Papas Altair. All are Group 123 car seats and were sold before March 2015, writes the Manchester Evening News.

As well as being sold through the Mamas & Papas website and factory stores, the seats have also been sold through Asda, Tesco, Shop Direct (Littlewoods and Very) and some independent retailers.

The approval code of the affected seats, which can be found on the orange label on the back, is 04 44596.

A recall notice states: "Following a series of safety checks, Mamas & Papas have identified a potential safety concern with a number of car seats that were sold through Asda, Tesco, Shop Direct and some independent retailers.

"They were also sold through the Mamas & Papas website and our factory stores. In the event of an accident the car seat shell may crack and therefore not provide the intended level of protection to the user."

It adds: "Mamas & Papas can assure customers that none of the affected car seats have been on sale since March 2015 and there have been no reports of any incidents involving any of the affected car seats."
