A 36-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting in Newsome.

Armed police sealed off Ruth Street after a shot was fired from a silver vehicle at around 3.15pm on Monday.

The 33-year-old intended victim was uninjured in the incident.

Police later revealed that the cartridge fired was a blank.

Police yesterday confirmed a 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and is currently in police custody.

The incident also caused a delay for fire crews accessing an unrelated blaze at the rear of nearby Newsome Mills.
