A DAD has died after he became trapped under a vehicle.

Fire crews from Rastrick and Cleckheaton, police and paramedics rushed to the emergency on a private street parallel with Huddersfield Road in Brighouse at 12.45pm on Saturday.

Andy Wood, Rastrick watch commander said the man, in his 40s, was “working on a Land Rover Discovery when it rolled back onto him.”

A technical engine from Cleckheaton helped to release him from under the car and the emergency teams gave him CPR before he was raced to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

Unfortunately, Simon Archer, Calderdale Police sergeant, said that he later died.

An investigation has now begun into the death.

Neighbours of the family on the quiet road were in deep shock about the accident.

One, who did not want to be named, confirmed that he had a partner and was a father.

He said: “The whole street is just in shock.

“No one can believe what has happened and I feel so sorry for his family.

“I didn’t know him by name but used to wave at him when he drove by.

“When I heard I assumed that a car had hit another when it was trying to pull out onto Huddersfield Road, never something like this – it’s terrible.”
