A 41-YEAR-OLD man was arrested in an operation by the police in Sheepridge.

Officers from Kirklees Drugs and Gun Crime Team helped by the force’s Operational Support Unit raided a home yesterday.

They found a sawn-off shotgun, an electric stun gun and a substantial amount of suspected cannabis was also seized.

The raid happened after police were given tip-offs.

Sgt Damian Roebuck, from the Kirklees Drugs and Gun Crime Team, said: "We have been working together in consultation with the Kirklees Anti Social Behaviour Unit. A number of complaints were received from members of the public and as a result of this we have taken action.

“Working in partnership with our colleagues at Kirklees Council has resulted in another significant seizure for the second week running. The support of the general public is paramount to our teams success. We will continue to act in a swift manner to all intelligence received. Anybody with information concerning drug dealing or firearms should contact Kirklees Police.”

On Tuesday, November 6, the squad seized a gun and dozens of rounds of ammunition after raiding another house in Sheepridge. A handgun along with bullets and drugs were seized.

This led to a further search in the Huddersfield area which led to more live ammunition being found along with a silencer for a handgun. A 20-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were arrested and later charged with offences.

Insp Dave Barnett, of Huddersfield North Neighbourhood Policing Team, added: "This operation clearly demonstrates our determination to deal with crimes of this nature in Ashbrow.”
