AN 80-year-old man has been badly hurt in a road accident.

The man was walking his dog when he is thought to have been in collision with two cars on the A58 Whitehall Road in Cleckheaton.

The accident happened close to Cleckheaton Golf Club at 4.25pm yesterday.

The two cars involved are a black BMW and a blue Ford Fiesta.

Both were travelling towards Halifax.

The man, who has not been named, was taken to Dewsbury District Hospital where he is "critical" today.

Police have appealed for witnesses and want anyone who saw the accident to come forward.

A police spokeswoman said: "We would like to speak to anyone who saw the pedestrian just before the accident or the accident itself."

The road was closed causing massive traffic disruption.
