AN 82-year-old man attacked in his own home remains seriously ill in hospital.
Beaumont Lodge was found with serious head injuries after an incident at his bungalow at The Royds in Clayton West in the early hours of Wednesday, March 19.
He has been cared for at Leeds General Infirmary .
He was at first in a critical condition, but is now said to be stable.
A man has already appeared in court accused of attacking him.
Owen Charles McCann, 38, of no fixed address, has been remanded in custody accused of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and aggravated burglary.
His trial is due to start at Bradford Crown Court on August 11.
Mr Lodge became an accredited lay preacher in 1959 and has worked in the Denby Dale circuit since moving to Clayton West about 10 years ago.
His wife, Jean, who had been a nurse, died a few years ago.
Mr Lodge has four children, two sons and two daughters. One son and one daughter live in Huddersfield and the other two live in the south of England.
