A man was arrested after a police chase in Newsome.

It is thought the man was driving a car which was being pursued by police at 6.45pm today.

He then abandoned it on Prince Street and fled across nearby playing fields but was chased and arrested.

The car he was driving was taken away by police on a low loader.

A police spokesman said: “Police tried to halt a vehicle but it looked like it was not going to stop. "There was then a short chase on foot and a man was detained.”

He was detained for failing to stop for police and taken to Huddersfield police station.
