A man has been arrested after a suspected arson attack on a flat in Fartown.

Lighted material is believed to have been pushed through the letterbox at the first floor flat in Peridot Fold just before 5am today.

Firefighters smashed down the door to rescue two men, one aged 59 and the other aged 28.

The flats have just one entrance and the fire trapped the men inside. The alarm was raised after a smoke detector went off.

Both victims were treated at the scene for the effects of smoke.
