A MAN is seriously ill in hospital after a crash on a village road.

Firefighters had to cut the roof off a car to free the man, who was a back seat passenger.

The crash happened at 7.30 last night when a red Honda Prelude leaving the car park at the White Horse pub on Wakefield Road, Lepton, was in collision with a white Renault 5 GT travelling towards Grange Moor.

The 45-year-old man in the Honda suffered head injuries and was today in the intensive care unit at Leeds General Infirmary.

The driver, a 22-year-old man from Lepton, suffered minor injuries.

A 19-year-old Dewsbury man driving the Renault had whiplash injuries.
