A MAN tried to drag a 14-year-old girl into his car near her school.

Police have put out an urgent alert in a bid to stop the driver striking again.

The victim was walking to Hipperholme and Lightcliffe School when a car pulled alongside her on Greenfield Avenue, Lightcliffe, just before 9am yesterday.

The man, thought to have been driving a dark blue Ford Escort, asked her to get in, but she ignored him.

She crossed the road, but the man then swerved the car across the road in front of oncoming vehicles.

Her shouted at her and tried to pull her into the car, but the victim ran off and hid in a nearby park.

About 10 minutes later she came out of hiding and tried to get to school, but spotted the man and the car in the car park of the Sun Inn on Stoney Lane.

He shouted at her again and she ran the rest of the way to school, which was only about 100 yards away.

A police spokeswoman said: "The girl was very shaken by the incident. Pupils' parents have been made aware of this.
