ONE man has been charged after a spate of police raids focusing on suspected car criminals in Huddersfield.

Four more have been released on police bail after almost 80 officers swooped on homes and businesses in Marsden, Slaithwaite, Golcar and Milnsbridge early yesterday morning.

A 44-year-old Marsden man has been charged with handling stolen goods and will appear before Huddersfield magistrates next Wednesday.

Six men were arrested during the raids.

One, a 23-year-old from Marsden, will face no further action.

The raids were co- ordinated and led by Huddersfield Community Safety Vehicle Crime Unit which is targeting car crime in Huddersfield.

Yesterday's raids were organised after car crime had risen in some parts of the Colne Valley in recent months.

Several suspected stolen vehicles were found along with car parts and audio equipment, motorcycles, industrial plant machinery and drugs including cannabis and ecstasy.
