A GREEK man aged 27 will appear in court today charged with the kidnap and manslaughter of estate agent Stephanie Hammill.

The man - extradited from Greece by West Yorkshire Police - will also face charges over the kidnap and sexual assault of a Dewsbury woman.

He is expected to appear at Wakefield Magistrates' Court later today to be formally charged with the kidnap and manslaughter of Miss Hammill in Wakefield on Saturday, November 29, 2003.

He will also be charged with the kidnap and indecent assault of a 24-year-old woman in Dewsbury on February 22, 2003.

The man was flown from Greece to the UK over the weekend, accompanied by West Yorkshire officers.

West Yorkshire officers have been working closely with the Greek authorities since 2004.

The man was arrested in Greece by Greek police on August 8, 2005, after the Wakefield-based investigation team obtained a European Arrest Warrant for him. He has been in custody in Greece since then.

The Greek Supreme Court rejected his appeal against extradition late last year.

The man will remain in custody in West Yorkshire prior to appearing in court today.

Miss Hammill died after a night out in Wakefield.

She is believed to have got into a car she thought was a taxi and was then struck by another vehicle after getting out of the car.

Her death prompted one of West Yorkshire's biggest murder investigations.
