A Birkby man has been charged in connection with a stabbing in Huddersfield town centre.

The attack happened last Monday night when a 55-year-old man was walking along Cloth Hall Street and was approached by a man who demanded money.

The victim ignored the demands and continued walking but then felt a sharp pain in his back and thought the man had punched him.

He had actually been stabbed in the back and sought help at nearby McDonald’s.

He was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and was found to have a small puncture wound.

A 30-year-old man has been arrested and subsequently charged with attempted robbery.
