A man has been charged in connection with a stabbing in Meltham.

Police were called on Sunday evening after a 22-year-old man was found in the Wessenden Head Road area of the village with two stab wounds in his back.

The victim has been named locally at Gaz Atkinson, a former pupil at Honley High School, who lives in Meltham.

A major rescue operation was launched on Sunday night after the incident close to the village centre.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance landed in Morrison’s Station Street car park to take the 22-year-old to Leeds General Infirmary, having been called in by ambulance crews who arrived at the scene.

The victim's condition was described as “stable”.

The attack is believed to have happened near Meltham Liberal Club

Officers carried out enquiries and subsequently arrested a 24-year-old man who has since been charged with wounding with intent.
