A MAN attacked his pregnant ex-girlfriend while high on drugs, a court heard.
Terry Mellor admitted assaulting Hayley Boswell at her homes in Oakes.
He was warned that he faces jail after Kirklees magistrates were told how the attack took place in the presence of the couple’s four-month-old son.
The Huddersfield bench was told that Mellor, 21, and Miss Boswell had previously been in an on-off relationship for seven years.
But the relationship had been violent and police had been previously called.
In February 2011 Mellor was jailed after throwing a remote control at Miss Boswell and cutting her eye.
Magistrates were told that Mellor was a regular user of MCAT and cannabis and on December 16 had taken drugs.
As a result he and Miss Boswell argued and when he went to her home in Willwood Avenue she asked him to leave.
He refused and police arrested him to prevent a breach of the peace.
But after he was released from police custody, Mellor returned to the address and got Miss Boswell’s neighbour Claire Martin to knock on the door instead.
Alex Bozman, prosecuting, said: “He barged into the house. He was shouting and swearing at her and this woke the child who started screaming.
“Mr Mellor picked the baby up and Miss Boswell was trying to get the baby back from him.
“She says he punched her in the face, causing her to fall backwards onto the bed.”
She went to Ms Martin’s house, who called police as Mellor banged on her door.
Mellor then climbed onto the porch roof of the neighbour’s house and banged on the window, shattering the glass as he tried to get into the house.
Mellor pleaded guilty to damaging the window as well as admitting the assault.
Ian Whiteley, mitigating, said that at the time his client had been upset as it was the anniversary of his mother’s death.
He said: “December is always a very difficult time for Mr Mellor.
“He always feels it at this time of year but the way he’s reacted on this occasion was, he knows, wrong.”
Mellor will next appear on Tuesday, January 3 for sentencing and was remanded in custody.
