A MAN accused of aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving faces crown court trial.

Barry Thomas, 36, was before Kirklees magistrates sitting in Huddersfield yesterday.

He faces further charges of failing to stop when required by a constable and driving without insurance and otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

The alleged offences took place on October 30 at St Andrew’s Road in Huddersfield.

Carole Lawford, prosecuting, said Thomas took the £14,000 Audi S3, which belonged to his friend. The vehicle was driven at high speeds in poor weather conditions.

She told magistrates that she felt the case should be dealt with at crown court.

Thomas, of Brown Royd Avenue, Rawthorpe, gave no indication as to what his plea will be.

He will next appear magistrates on May 21 for a committal hearing. Thomas was granted unconditional bail.
