A man has appeared in court over a stabbing in Huddersfield town centre in the early hours of Saturday.

Kirklees Magistrates’ Court heard that the attack happened in Cross Church Street following a row over queue jumping at a taxi rank.

The victim, Paul Middleton, was allegedly slashed in the upper chest with a knife and needed stitches, the Huddersfield court heard.

Lee Taylor, of Sherwood Avenue in Bradley, appeared in court over the attack.

He is charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing a bladed article without lawful authority.

The 26-year-old’s case was sent to Leeds Crown Court.

He will first appear there on August 22 and was remanded in custody.

Meanwhile, police are appealing for witnesses after a second man was stabbed in Cross Church Street the same night.

Det Insp Stef Wiseman, of Kirklees CID, said that in another incident a man aged in his 30s was stabbed in the leg.

His attacker is still being sought by police.
