A man who suffered ‘life changing injuries’ after a 10-tonne digger rolled on top of him remains seriously ill in hospital.

The 52-year-old man was crushed by the machine as it was being unloaded from a trailer at a building site in Honley.

The man is thought to have been the driver of the articulated lorry which was delivering the machine.

He was flown to Leeds General Infirmary by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, which landed on the fields at Honley High School.

Police closed the road after the accident, which happened shortly before 8am on Thursday.

The injured man has multiple injuries.

The incident is under investigation by police and the Health and Safety Executive.

Police revealed yesterday that the man told those who came to help him that the brakes of the machine had failed and that would be one of the things investigated.

The accident happened only a hundred yards from the scene of a tragic accident in February.

Talented young rugby player Andy Bessell, 28, died from his injuries after his car hit a wall in Station Road.
