A man in his 30s died after a police pursuit which shut the M62, West Yorkshire Police has confirmed.

At around 2.45am on Monday morning a silver Audi A4 was sighted on Stoney Ridge Road in the Heaton area of Bradford and failed to stop for officers.

A pursuit commenced and the Audi collided with a barrier on the M606, close to the junction of the M62 westbound, a short time later.

West Yorkshire Police has issued a statement saying: “The driver of the Audi, a man in his thirties was pronounced deceased at the scene. His family have been informed.

“A road closure remains in place as investigations continue.

“Due to the circumstances an immediate referral has been made to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.”

Debris from the incident on the M606 fell onto the M62 carriageway, causing a partial closure of the M62 this morning.

The M606 slip road remains closed.
