A 69-YEAR-OLD man has been killed in a moorland road tragedy.

The motorist from Holmfirth died when his car left the road, hit a barrier and then plummeted down a banking.

The crash happened at 8.30am yesterday on Holmfirth Road close to Greenfield. It happened just inside the border with Greater Manchester.

The driver – who has not yet been named – was taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital, but died a short time later.

No other car was involved.

Holmfirth Road was closed in both directions for about three hours while police crash experts examined the scene.
