A THIRTY-five-year-old man claimed he had injured his back playing cricket after failing to appear in court to answer a driving charge.

Janus Khan, of Hadfield Close, Sheffield, did not attend Huddersfield Magistrates’ Court on May 22 but the case did not take place in his absence.

After hearing that Khan had made a phone call at 8.55am saying he had injured his back playing cricket and had been to see a doctor the case was adjourned.

Despite no sick note having been produced, chairman of the bench, Clifford Bromley, said yesterday the case would now be heard on June 21.
