A man was rescued by fire crews after he fell 30ft down a grass bank in Batley.

The rescue came as the man was left stranded precariously above a steep drop.

His fall was broken by a ledge where he became stranded a further 100ft from the ground below.

Fire crews were called to the bank near Perseverance Terrace at 11.05pm last night after reports a man was stuck.

Crews from Dewsbury, Batley and Cleckheaton attended.

Firefighters assisted the man and they hauled him to safety.

It is not known whether he had suffered any injuries.
