A man who turned his garden into a rubbish tip has been fined over £1,000.

A neighbour of New Hey Road, Huddersfield, resident Hussain Bilal reported him to the council in March.

They had become sick of seeing a large pile of black bags containing food and drink packaging behind the Oakes home of Bilal, 43.

At Kirklees Magistrates Court, Kirklees Council’s solicitor Miles Barker said Bilal repeatedly ignored council letters over a period of one month warning him to remove the rubbish.

The rubbish was first photographed on March 23 and then on several other occasions.

He was served with an antisocial behaviour order by the police, but again failed to move the waste.

After the month had passed, Kirklees Council issued him with a penalty notice that Bilal failed to pay.

Staff then had to return to his property to remove the waste themselves.

Lead magistrate Phillip Walker fined Bilal £440, £589 in costs and a £44 surcharge in his absence.
