A 47-YEAR-OLD man was found collapsed and injured on a street close to Huddersfield town centre.

The man had been attacked and detectives believe he may also have been robbed in the incident on Queen Street South early today.

Now police have urged anyone who saw anything suspicious on the road which links Queensgate to Firth Street between midnight and 12.45am today to contact them.

A passing taxi driver discovered the man lying on the pavement at 12.45am and immediately alerted police and paramedics.

The victim was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. He had suffered bruising and swelling to his face and was allowed home after treatment.

Det Con Neil Johnson, of Kirklees CID intelligence unit, said: “If anyone saw what happened or the victim on Queen Street South we would urge them to give us a call.’’

The scene outside Yorkshire Fur Fabrics Limited at Bates Mill was sealed off today for a forensic examination.
