The man attacked in Huddersfield in the early hours of Sunday morning has left hospital.

The 23-year-old was left with serious facial injuries following a horrific early-hours attack in  Huddersfield.

He was rushed to Leeds General Infirmary shortly after 3am on Sunday morning after he was found unconscious in Wood Street .

Police believe that the serious assault took place after an earlier fight that took place outside Centro’s pizza takeaway in Northumberland Street.

It is then thought to have got more out of control, before spilling around the corner into Wood Street.

Officers cordoned off the street for some hours to examine the scene.

Speaking yesterday, Det Insp Jim Griffiths, of Huddersfield CID, has now put out an urgent call for witnesses to the fight and attack.

He said: “We were called to the scene at 3am after receiving reports of a serious assault.

“The man was unresponsive and was taken to the Leeds hospital, where I understand his condition has been stabilised.

“His injuries are thought to be non life-threatening but are serious nonetheless.

“It appears that a fight broke out outside Centro’s between a group before it continued around the corner.

“Unfortunately we have not yet found any witnesses and would really like to speak to anyone who saw the fight and assault to come forward to help us with our investigation.
