A HUDDERSFIELD man died after hanging himself with a shoelace, an inquest heard.

Andrew David Makomborero Mutambirwa, 45, died on June 28 last year at his flat in Yew Green Road, Lockwood.

He was found by his sister and brother-in-law, hanging by a lace attached to a cupboard frame.

Mr Mutambirwa's only child, Leon, had alerted his aunt after attempts to contact his father failed.

Unemployed Mr Mutambirwa had lived alone since a divorce.

Coroner Roger Whittaker said Mr Mutambirwa had had a lot of difficult experiences in his life and was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia.

Mr Mutambirwa's sister said he told her he was having suicidal thoughts four weeks before his death.

Mr Mutambirwa, a former electrical engineer, was last seen by a senior mental health worker on June 12 2003 when he said he had a low mood.

He arranged another appointment for June 23, but did not attend.

He often missed appointments, so nobody worried.

The coroner said it was clear Mr Mutambirwa had intended to take his life.

He recorded a verdict of suicide.
