A MAN has been charged with raping a woman in Huddersfield more than 20 years ago.

The 48-year-old man, from Huddersfield, is accused of raping a 49-year-old woman in her home in Town Avenue, Bradley Mills, on November 1,1987.

The victim was attacked in her kitchen as she opened the door to exercise her dog.

The suspect was arrested in Blackpool on Sunday following a joint operation by the West Yorkshire and Lancashire police forces.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said the alleged attack was one of a number of unsolved rape cases which had been reopened, thanks to advances in DNA technology.

The man was due to appear at Leeds Magistrates' Court later today.
