A MAN was arrested on suspicion of murder today after police found a woman's body in a Huddersfield house.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the terraced home in Dean Street, Oakes, to find the 37-year-old woman dead.

Police then arrested a 40-year-old man.

He is being held at Huddersfield police station, where he is expected to be interviewed later today.

A post-mortem on the woman is also expected to be conducted today.

Neighbours woke up to the grim news early this morning.

A police van was parked outside the house in the quiet residential street off New Hey Road.

Householders said a married couple and two children lived at the house where the body was found.

A 60-year-old neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: "Sometimes the man would say hello, but you'd never get a conversation out of him."

The neighbour said he didn't see much of the man.

He added that the couple used to live together and then got married.

He also thought the man had worked at the former Sykes's wire works in Acre Street, Lindley.

Police would not confirm the identity of the dead woman today.
