A man remains critically ill in hospital after being hit by a train.

The 45-year-old Marsden resident, who has not been named, is in intensive care at Leeds General Infirmary.

He was hit by a Trans Pennine Express train at Marsden as it travelled from Scarborough to Manchester Airport just after 8.30am last Friday.

Emergency workers were visibly distressed as they fought to free him from beneath the train.

The incident, which caused disruption to several rail services, is not being treated as suspicious.
