A MAN was taken to hospital with serious injuries following a Dewsbury crash.
An Alfa Romeo travelling towards Thornhill Lees left the road on Mill Street East at just before 8.25pm last night.
It sheared a lamp post in half before colliding with and wrecking a set of heavy duty gates.
The out-of-control car then smashed into a wall before spinning back into the road and ending up in the opposite lane.
When fire crews arrived the male passenger, 17, was clear of the vehicle but the driver, a man in his 20s, was trapped.
Crews administered first aid until an ambulance arrived and they were able to cut the roof from the stricken vehicle and remove the badly injured man.
He was taken to Dewsbury District Hospital with severe chest injuries.
