A Huddersfield man has died after he was hit by a train at Dewsbury station last night.

British Transport Police confirmed the 31-year-old man, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man was hit as the train was passing through the station's platform two at 75mph at shortly after 7pm on Tuesday.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “We were called to Dewsbury Railway station on Tuesday following a report that a man had been hit by a train.

“Our officers attended along with colleagues from West Yorkshire Police and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service but the man, who police believe to be aged 31 and from the Huddersfield area, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.”

The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious.

Officers are now working to formally identify the man and inform his family.

A file will be prepared for the coroner.
