A MAN needed his hand reconstructing after a car collision in Shepley.

The man, who was passenger in a Passat with his wife and 14-month-old twins, needed his hand reconstructing after the incident at 6.35pm on Sunday evening.

Road traffic police say the driver of an Audi A3 came down Barnsley Road too fast and collided with the victim’s car at the junction of Lane Head Road.

The Audi driver then fled the scene.

Yesterday the victim was undergoing surgery as police appealed for the driver to come forward.

Pc Felicity Whitteron, of Huddersfield Road Traffic Police, said: “A young lad appears to have been going too fast along Barnsley Road and went straight into a car with a family of four in it.

“The guy ran away and the passenger was left needing his hand reconstructing

“It seems the victim, who was a passenger, saw the car coming and braced himself, put his hand on the side bar and when the collision occurred it split his hand and broke a couple of bones.”

He was admitted to hospital for treatment and kept in overnight for surgery yesterday.

Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact PC Felicity Whitteron or Road Traffic Police on 01484 436 847.
