A man was stabbed in the back in a terrifying broad daylight knife attack in Fartown.

The 30-year-old man was walking along Red Doles Road between 2.15pm and 2.45pm on Wednesday when he was approached by two men.

They asked him for cigarettes, cash and for use of his mobile phone but he refused and continued walking.

The pair started verbally abusing the man as he walked off then one approached from behind the victim and stabbed him in the back.

The suspects fled.

The victim was taken to hospital for non-life threatening injuries and is still detained.

Det Insp Andy Parr of Kirklees CID said: “This appears to be an attempted robbery which has resulted in the 30-year-old victim receiving a stab wound to his back.

“He was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary with non-life threatening injuries and remains in hospital.

“We would urge anyone who saw two men matching the following description, not just on the day of the incident, but at a similar time of the day in the locality, to get in touch.”

The suspects are described as both white males, aged 19 with slim builds. One had a grey hooded top with the hood up and the other had a dark top.

The incident comes days after a man was threatened at knife-point at his home in York Avenue, Fartown.

In this incident, which is not linked to the Red Doles attack, a 26-year-old man was forced to hand over cash from his wallet before the robbers forced him back into his house and were given more cash. They then fled.

Anyone with information on either of the incident should contact police on 101.
