A man was struck over the head with a hammer during a terrifying attempted robbery at his home in Calderdale.

The incident took place at around 3.40pm on Sunday at a house in Bradley Court, Greetland, when three men confronted the occupant on his door step and then forced their way into the house.

One of the suspects then struck the occupant, a man in his 60s, with the hammer.

The suspects made off in what is thought to be a blue Ford Focus towards Elland.

The victim was treated in hospital.

Police have now released an E-fit of one of the suspects they wish to trace and are urging anyone who recognises a man matching the description to contact them.

Officers believe the incident may be linked with a number of reported suspicious incidents earlier in the day.

Several suspects were seen acting suspiciously around houses in the Greetland and Barkisland area where high value vehicles were parked on the driveways.

The suspects were seen driving two cars, a blue Ford Focus, and grey Volkswagen Golf.

Det Sgt Ross Wadsworth, of Calderdale CID, said: “The victim is now recovering at home, following hospital treatment, although he is understandably shaken following the incident.

“We have a number of witnesses who have made reports of seeing a group of males acting suspiciously around other properties where high-value vehicles were parked.

“As it was the early afternoon, I am certain there will be further people who may have seen the suspects, or the vehicles they were driving and may hold vital information. I would urge them to come forward.”

Anyone who has information is asked to contact Det Sgt Ross Wadsworth at Calderdale CID via 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
