A man was badly assaulted following a row between a large group of people in Marsh.

The victim, a 31-year-old man, suffered a fractured eye socket, following the incident at 10.50pm last night at the junction of Reed Street and Broomfield Terrace.

The nasty attack followed reports of up to 25 people arguing in the street.

Det Insp Andy Leonard from Kirklees CID, said the man had been taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and was likely to need surgery to fix the fracture.

He said: “We believe the victim had been in an altercation before he was assaulted.

“We have reports of a large group of between 20 to 25 youths, aged about 18, arguing.

“We don’t have a suspect yet but inquiries are ongoing.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Kirklees CID via 101.
