A MAN suffered smoke inhalation when a neighbouring house caught fire on Saturday.

Fire crews from Dewsbury and Batley were called to the fire in Hawthorn Avenue, Batley. The ground floor of the building was well alight by the time they arrived.

No-one was trapped in the blaze, but one male neighbour was taken to Dewsbury District Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

A fire emergency support vehicle also attended the scene to offer support to the affected occupants.
