A man has been ordered to pay compensation after damaging a car belonging to his former girlfriend’s father in a row over drugs.

Kodie Widdop, of Thornville in Brighouse, admitted a charge of criminal damage.

Kirklees magistrates heard that at the time of the incident, Widdop was in a relationship with Jade Speight.

On June 6 he returned to her home in Cardigan Close, Batley, and was under the influence of drink and drugs.

The couple argued and he threatened to damage her father’s Ford Focus parked outside.

The 24-year-old then took a brick and threw it at the vehicle, denting the passenger door window and smashing the rear window.

Mohammed Arif, mitigating, said that the couple’s relationship had recently deteriorated when he began drinking large amounts of alcohol and taking drugs.

He added that he had gone to his ex’s home with the belief that she had been having a relationship with someone else.

Magistrates sentenced him to a 12 month community order with 25 days of activities and 40 hours of unpaid work.

They also made a restraining order banning him from threatening unlawful violence against Miss Speight.

Finally, he must pay £250 compensation to her father as well as £85 costs, £150 court charge and £60 victim surcharge.
