FIREFIGHTERS rescued a man who was trapped under a digger.

A crew from Slaithwaite was called to a yard at Clay Lane in the village by paramedics who were treating the man at about 5.30pm on Wednesday.

It is believed the digger had toppled over as he reversed it off a low- loader.

The man was believed to have been there for some time before being discovered.

The firefighters used airbags to lift the machine, which had trapped the man’s left leg.

Watch Manager Graham Holroyd said: “He was conscious and was being given painkilling gas while we moved the digger. It took about 10 minutes.”

An ambulance took the man to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary with an injury to the lower part of his leg.
