A MAN was trapped in his van after a dramatic crash on the M62.

The van ended up careering down a steep 30ft embankment after it was in collision with a lorry on the eastbound carriageway close to junction 23 at Outlane at 1.10pm yesterday.

The force of the impact ripped the two front wheels and axle off the lorry, which ended up partway down the banking next to Slack Lane, which leads to Outlane Golf Club.

Station officer Tony Bateman, of Huddersfield fire station, said: "The van driver was trapped in the wreckage.

"He had suffered two bad cuts to his head and also complained of pains in his back and arms.

"Paramedics stabilised his condition before we cut the roof off the van and gently lifted him out.

"He was drifting in and out of consciousness and taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary for treatment."

The slightly hurt lorry driver managed to scramble out of his wrecked lorry.
