A man had to be treated by paramedics following a fire in his home.

The blaze broke out in the bedroom in Alder Street, Fartown, early on Saturday.

Two crews from Huddersfield were called to the house at just after 5.30am.

They spent two hours at the scene of the blaze which is now being investigated by police.

The man in his early 20s suffered from the effects of breathing in smoke and firefighters requested an ambulance.

He was given oxygen therapy and didn’t require further hospital treatment.

Firefighters used two breathing apparatus and a hose reel to extinguish the fire.

All of the bedroom furniture had to be removed from the house through the front garden, leaving the man with a big clean-up operation.
