ONE of Huddersfield’s largest employers is also one of the country’s best.

The University of Huddersfield has just been honoured by a Government-backed body for continual investment in its staff of more than 1,600.

For 10 years, the university has worked closely with the Government-funded Investors in People, set up in 1993 to help organisations and businesses boost their performance by developing the potential of employees.

Now its Yorkshire centre has awarded the university a special certificate, acknowledging that it has been continuously recognised as an Investors in People organisation for a decade. Huddersfield was one of the first universities to be awarded coveted IiP status and is also unusual in that the entire institution – including its centres in Barnsley and Oldham – is covered.

In celebration of the 10-year achievement, the university invited Carole Reid, the chief executive of the Investors in People Centre for Yorkshire and Humber to its annual Support Staff Conference.
