A MAN was hurt in a raid at a Huddersfield betting shop.

The raider walked into the Jack Pearson shop on Greens End Road in Meltham at 6pm on Saturday.

He threatened the manager and demanded cash before punching his victim and then fleeing with money.

Detectives have now put out an urgent appeal for anyone who saw him to come forward.

Det Sgt Nigel Gittins from Kirklees CID said: “The robber was wearing a distinctive yellow sun hat so it may be people remember seeing him.

“Did anyone spot him hanging around before the offence was committed or making his getaway afterwards?”

The man’s face was covered by a dark-coloured scarf when he went into the betting office and the rest of his clothes were dark.

He is white, aged about 40 and 6ft tall.

The betting office was sealed off immediately after the raid so police could carry out a detailed forensic search.

The office manager, a man in his mid 40s, was not badly hurt during the ordeal.

Anyone with information should contact Det Sgt Gittins on 01484 436685 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
